Mooring areas A (partial) and D of the bay of Cadaqués, managed by SOTAMAR, are located on a sea bed constituted mainly of meadows of sea grass (Posidonia oceanica).
Sea grass is a higher plant adapted to life in the sea and is a species protected by the Catalan Autonomous Government, the Spanish Government and the European Union, owing to its great ecological importance in the Mediterranean.
In order to minimize the environmental impact that mooring areas have on the marine environment, SOTAMAR is implementing a remedial measures plan, replacing whenever possible the traditional anchorage systems with mooring systems that have a low environmental impact, following the guidelines laid down by the Cadaqués Town Council (Maritime Services), the Coast Guard of the Directorate-General for Environmental Planning and Protection (GENCAT) and the Directorate-General for Fisheries and Maritime Affairs (GENCAT).
